If you haven’t stumbled upon FancyFlours.com, get to stumbling. They have the most wonderful cake decorations and cupcake accoutrements. These cupcakes, made to celebrate my favorite pirate’s new job, went from ordinary to Ahoy There! thanks to homemade vanilla-rum ganache frosting and these edible toppers.

The vanilla rum frosting is easy peasy.  Heat 1 cup of heavy whipping cream over medium heat until steaming.  Pour over 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and let stand for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth and completely blended.  Add 2 tbs vanilla rum and stir gently.  Refrigerate for 2 hours.  Add 1/2 cup powdered sugar and whip with a whisk attachment on a hand-held mixer until of desired consistency (you might need to chill a little longer to get it just right).  Frost away!
